Wednesday Night recap

Hey guys,

It's Philip, your Onelife "blog master," and I just wanted to give you a little recap of what went on last night, Wednesday, August 13, 2008.

Being the first Wednesday night since school started back, I had this inkling that it would be special. At rehearsal Sunday, the band and I had a little 10 minute devotional time (which actually ended up being 30 minutes because I like to talk I guess)and we talked about the importance of our hearts being right before God when we worship. We talked about whenever we (being your worship team) go up to lead you guys in worship, its crucial that we all are "on the same page" or have the same purpose when we lead you guys in worship to God. We went on to talk about how unity is crucial to seeing the Spirit move in people's lives and how when we are united in heart and purpose, we do our part in allowing the Spirit of God to move freely without hindrance (2nd Chronicles 5:13-14). We then decided to make our ministry verse/passage Psalm 150, which states:

"Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his excellent greatness!
Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!"

We believe that this passage pretty much sums up what we (worship team) should be about on Wednesday nights. And before the band came out and led you guys, we went to meet and pray about the night. And during that time, we read this passage and prayed over the night and that Psalm 150 would be our hearts cry, united in the Spirit to praise the one true God! And we prayed over Alex, that he would be a vessel for God to speak through that night. And God answered our prayers once again. The Spirit moved in a very powerful, yet unique way last night. Alex spoke on living a life worhty of the Gospel and how when we do (through the power of the Spirit), its a sign to the world our salvation and their destruction (Philippians 1:28). Alex then went on to say that when Paul says, "Only let your life be worthy of the gospel of Christ", the Greek in "let your life" actually means to let your "behavior" be worthy of the gospel of Christ. That means that the way we act, think, and speak should reflect the gospel of Christ. And then and only then can we be in the proper place to share the gospel because our lives will be living up to what we are sharing with people (but only through the Spirit is that even possible).

I apologize for the length of this post, but I hope everything that was said was of benfit to you.

Thanks for reading and hope that you guys continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling (through the Spirit of God) as we anxiously await the return of our Lord and Savior, JESUS CHRIST!

Hope to see you Sunday, as well as Wednesday!

Grace and peace from your blogmaster,

phil
